What is CEIP and How Does it Work?

The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) is a unique financing tool that allows you to fund up to 100% of your solar project costs, up to a maximum of $50,000 per property. Unlike a traditional bank loan, this financing is attached to the property, not the individual.

• Zero Money Down: You can finance 100% of the project, including equipment and installation.
• Easy Repayment: Payments are made conveniently through your regular property tax bill. 
• Seamless Transfer: If you decide to sell your home, the remaining balance stays with the property tax bill for the new owner to take over as they enjoy the lower energy bills.
• Term & Rate: For 2026, the fixed interest rate is 3.75%, with repayment terms available for up to 20 years.

Bonus Incentive: For a limited time, the City is offering an incentive that can reduce your total project financing by up to 10%. This is essentially a “completion bonus” applied directly to your Clean Energy Improvement Tax once the project is finished.

Who is Eligible?

• Financial Standing: Your property taxes must be in good standing (no arrears in the last five years), and your home cannot be in foreclosure or bankruptcy.
• Primary Residence: The property must be your primary residence.

Availability is extremely limited. The City of Calgary is only accepting 75 new applications for this intake. 

With thousands of homeowners waiting, these spots are expected to be claimed within minutes of the portal opening, and because the program is first-come, first-served, you cannot wait until the portal opens to start your plan.
